Pillar I: The Creed
I Believe in the Forgiveness of Sins and Life Everlasting
In the Church we believe in the forgiveness of sins through Christ's Paschal Mystery, communicated to us through Baptism and the Sacrament of Penance. We believe in the resurrection of the body — the same body, transformed in glory — and in the life everlasting. Heaven is the final perfect communion with the Holy Trinity. Hell is the definitive self-exclusion from that communion. Purgatory is a final purification for those who die in God's grace but still need cleansing.
So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown perishable; it is raised imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory.
