Pillar I: The Creed

I Believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church

The Holy Spirit is the Lord and giver of life, proceeding from the Father and the Son, worshipped and glorified with them. The Spirit dwells in the Church — one, holy, catholic, and apostolic — which Christ founded on the apostles and entrusted to Peter and his successors. The Church is the Body of Christ, the People of God, the Temple of the Holy Spirit, and the universal sacrament of salvation.

I also tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my assembly, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.

— Matthew 16:18 (WEB)

Note

CCC §683-975. The Church is the central mystery — Christ remains in the world through His Body, the Church.
