Pillar I: The Creed

I Believe in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, Our Lord

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, true God and true man — conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, who suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, was buried, descended to the dead, and on the third day rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father, from whence He will come to judge the living and the dead. The Incarnation, Paschal Mystery, and Resurrection are the heart of Catholic faith.

The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

— John 1:14 (WEB)

Note

CCC §422-682. The Paschal Mystery — Christ's passion, death, resurrection, and ascension — is central to all Catholic worship and life.
