Pillar IV: Prayer

Prayer in the Christian Life

Prayer is the raising of the heart and mind to God. It is God's gift to us before it is our work. The Catholic tradition of prayer is rich and diverse — vocal prayer, meditation, contemplation; liturgical and personal; the Liturgy of the Hours, the rosary, the Divine Mercy chaplet, lectio divina, eucharistic adoration. We pray to the Father, through the Son, in the Holy Spirit, often through the intercession of Mary and the saints. We pray with the whole communion of the Church across heaven and earth.

Pray without ceasing.

— 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (WEB)

Note

CCC §2558-2758. Prayer is "a vital and personal relationship with the living and true God" (CCC §2558).
